My travel beauty essentials

I feel like I’m an absolute pro at long-haul flights. I’m that one weird person that thoroughly enjoys traveling and everything about it and would much prefer a longer flight over a shorter one (much more time to get settled, comfortable and nap!). I partly put this down to my organisational skills and the fact that I have my routine down pat. I am used to having to look good at the end of a long flight from my pageant days and of course my last trip was over to Bali for our wedding so I was sure to take good care of my skin. Below I share my absolute beauty musts for traveling. I hope you enjoy and take something away from this!

Face Wipes

As soon as I get on the plane I always remove my makeup using face wipes. This is much easier than washing your face and you don’t need to leave your seat. They can also double up for body wipes to freshen up before you land. My pick is the Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes. They’re infused with argan oil to hydrate and repair the skin – and best of all proceeds go to saving the Polar Bear race! Available from, RRP $18.00.

Magic Cream

After removing my makeup I then slather my skin in a good moisturiser. I’ve been completely loving Charlotte Tilbury’s ‘Magic Cream’. This rehydrates dull and stressed skin and contains Vitamin E, Rose Hip and Camellia Oils for a youthful glow. I seriously can’t get enough of this stuff! Available from, RRP $132.00.

Lip Balm & Hand Cream

This one is a little more obvious, but with the dehydrating conditions of flying it’s essential to reapply a good lip balm and hand cream throughout the flight. I’ve been loving the Intensive Lip Punch, RRP $14.95, and the Soothe Tube, RRP $24.95, both from Ashley & Co. The lip balm contains Beeswax, Arnica and Argan Oil whilst the hand cream has Shea Butter, Camomile and Vitamin E. If you’re flying Air New Zealand Business Premier you’ll get the both products in flight or the Lip Punch on Premier Economy too, a few less things you need to carry on the plane – win! Both are available from

Tinted Moisturiser

Before landing and to freshen up I like to use another face wipe and of course more moisturiser. I’ll use the Magic Cream followed by a tinted moisturiser to put some life and colour back into my skin. The Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser has light diffusing particles to soften the appearance of every skin imperfection so is ideal! I use the colour Alaska. Available from, RRP $71.00.

Because I like to go for a light base, I’ll then go in with a bit of concealer to cover up any dark under eye circles. I only ever use my absolute holy grail concealer, Maybelline Master Conceal in the shade light. It is a beautiful yellow-toned concealer that perfectly brightens and doesn’t settle into fine lines. Available from, RRP $19.95.

You never look quite right without your brows! I like to comb and lightly fill them in before landing, especially because they are naturally really fair. I have recently switched from the Anastastia Beverley Hills Brow Wiz to the Benefit Precisely, My Brow pencil in the colour 2 Light. So far I really like both, they are ultra fine and have a spooly brush on the end. I think I may stick with the Benefit purely because it is easier to get your hands on in New Zealand. Available from, RRP $44.00.

Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions make things so much easier when traveling! Especially when you are visiting a tropical destination which means lots of beach and swimming. I went for a quick trip to LeahLovesMakeup for mine before I left – visit her website here.

Lip Colour

A tiny bit of lipstick in a colour close to your natural colour, lightly pressed into your lips, does so much for making you look more put together. I’ve been loving Tom Ford’s Lip Colour in ‘Bradley’. Available from, RRP $88.00.

The perfect carry-on, that isn’t going to suffocate your neighbours on the plane when you apply, is a perfume oil. Swedish born brand Byredo has the most luxurious, hand-bag friendly perfume oils that leave you smelling as fresh as a daisy (but better) when you step off the plane. My favourite scent is Mojave Ghost. Available from, RRP $90.00.

Post Flight Sheet Mask

The night after flying it is important to rehydrate your skin and the perfect way to do so is with a hyaluronic acid infused sheet mask. They take up no space in your luggage so there is no excuse! Garnier recently launched their Hydra Bomb Tissue Masks – I used the Soothing one when I arrived back home which is the perfect match for tired and sensitive skin. It has chamomile to sooth and heal with hyaluronic acid and plant serums to hydrate. And the best part, they’re only $4.99! Available from Farmers, selected pharmacies and supermarkets from September.
