One of my favourite looks, the water wave, is a relaxed yet still glamourous wave with lots of gloss and shine. One of my favourite parts about this look is it is relaxed enough to still look good the next day after sleeping on it. Read on and follow my steps below on how to achieve this look.
What you will need:
- A heat protectant serum or spray, I use the Kérastase L’Incroyable Blowdry Lotion
- A Cloud 9 wand, tapered
- A boar bristle dressing brush, I use the Cloud 9 one as the bristles aren’t too dense
- A finishing hairspray, for this look I used the evo hair miss malleable flexible hairspray
Apply your heat protectant. I like to use the Kérastase L’Incroyable in damp hair and then blow dry. I have straight hair so roughly blow dry, then finish with some cool air to lock in shine. If you have curly or frizzy hair, blow dry your hair straight. Using a heat proctectant that is also going to help your hair hold will help the style last for days.
Separate your hair into a top and bottom section. Clip up the top out of the way. If you have lots of hair like myself, I like to separate it into thirds. Turn on the Cloud 9 and choose the heat setting (I like to use the High setting for my hair type), it only takes a few seconds to heat up! Taking large sections of hair (between an inch and two inches), twist your hair around the barrel, facing away from your face. I like to use the wider half of the barrel, use the thinner half if you want tighter waves. Hold for 5 seconds then release, and repeat, ensuring you twist the hair away from your face on the other side of your head.
Repeat on sections two and / or three of your hair. On the top section, start the curl several inches away from your roots for a more relaxed look.
Leaving your hair for a minute to ensure it has cooled down, take the dressing brush and lightly brush out your hair. When you have reached the desired style, lightly spray with a flexible hold hair spray. The Cloud 9 wand ensures your hair stays beautifully shiny so no shine products or anti-frizz should be needed!
Pro Tip: For a more bed head wave, leave an inch at the end of each curl straight and finish with a sea salt spray.
