Most of us Kiwi’s know the brand Olive, the natural, safe skincare made in New Zealand. I was most familiar with the baby care and body care range. I’ve always been a big fan of the Exfoliating Moisture Body Scrub and Hand Moisturising-Cream. I didn’t know about the face care range and I have been trialing it this last week, and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it, and so has my skin!
The Simunovich Olive Estate is a family owned company in New Zealand who have created Olive, a natural botanical based skincare range. The skincare range contains extra virgin olive oil and olive leaf extract. I’ve been a fan of the body range for sometime, but I didn’t realise the amount of benefits these ingredients are actually giving to your skin.
We all know that olive oil is extremely moisturising, but that is just the beginning. Extra virgin olive oil is rich in antioxidants, essential vitamins, minerals and fatty acids which deeply moisturises, softens and revitalises the skin. And the olive leaf extract combats free radical damage to individual skin cells, with potent antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties. After doing this little bit of research I was then very excited to try out the face range.
Here are the products I picked out to trial;
Olive Rich Cleansing Milk, with pure olive leaf extract, cocoa butter & chamomile, 100ml, RRP $16.95.
I chose this as being winter, my skin has been on the dryer side. It’s described as a ‘Gentle creamy cleanser to remove makeup, tone and protect skin’. Immediately I was skeptical about the removing makeup side of things so I put it to the test with a full face of makeup. And to my surprise, it worked! The rich, creamy formula is one of the creamiest I have tried but without leaving my skin feeling oily. It removed almost all of my makeup, I had the tiniest bit of mascara residue left, but overall I was impressed. My favourite part about this cleanser is my skin was left feeling very clean, but soft and moisturised at the same time. And how could you go wrong with that price?! This definitely receives my tick of approval.
Olive Hydrating Facial Toner, with pure olive leaf extract, rose flower water & grape skin extract, 60ml, RRP $24.95. This is described as ‘A hyrdrating & moisturising toning mist for people on the go’ and is the only toner in the range. I love that this is a mist! So easy to use and you’re not wasting cotton wool. I love that it has rose water in it, I’m not sure how hydrating it is but it is meant to help clarify and tone the skin, it has anti-bacterial properties that promote healing, as well as being anti-inflammatory and containing antioxidants (read more about the scientific findings here). It also contains vitamin c, which is hugely anti-aging. The only part I wasn’t a fan of, is it says to leave to dry naturally on your skin. My skin felt a little tight after this, so I then just started applying the moistursier before it completely dried, and I enjoyed it much more after this. I definitely felt fresh and revitalised!
Olive Brightening Face Moisturiser, with 100% natural whitening formulation, bearberry extract & vitamin E, 45ml, RRP $39.95. ‘A gentle brightening facial moisturiser for day and night’. This has to be my pick of the bunch, I love it! It smells divine, is lovely and creamy without being oily or suffocating. My skin has been feeling so soft after this, and the smell reminds me of getting a facial. Bearberry extract is new to me, it is the natural whitening ingredient, which overtime will help reduce skin pigmentation. My research has found that it is a high quality skincare ingredient that also has antibacterial and antioxidant properties (read more here). Also found in the moisturiser is nourishing macadamia seed oil, avocado oil and replenishing mango butter.
Olive Reviving Eye Gel, with pure olive leaf, cucumber & green tea leaf extracts, 20ml, $34.95. ‘A concentrated tightening eye gel to soothe and refresh tired puffy eyes’. First thing I love about this is the price! An eye cream that is affordable is hard to come by, and they haven’t skimped on the active ingredients. This is so refreshing to use, and my eyes do feel brighter after using it. The two stand out ingredients in this are the green tea leaf extract and Vitamin E. Vitamin E is one of the most well-known antioxidant and reduces the formation of free-radical skin damage and protects the skin from water-loss and early stages of ultraviolet light damage (cosmetic skin dictionary, vitamin-e). And if you missed my post about green tea, it is another powerful antioxidant with anti-aging properties, whether consumed orally or applied topically. This is definitely going to become a staple in my skincare routine.
In summary, I highly recommend Olive’s face care range. It is bursting with active beneficial ingredients, it’s natural, safe and you know exactly what you are putting on your skin. It’s also nice to support a local New Zealand company, which of course is anti animal testing too. You can purchase their products from Farmers, or online here. Here’s to beautiful skin.
